Despite its title ("Little Solemn Mass"), this is a work of remarkable beauty and emotional depth, combining Rossini's unforgettable melodies with moments of joy, tenderness and quiet contemplation. Written in 1863, long after his great operatic successes, it is widely regarded as one of his finest achievements.
