MR JOHN JENKINS

It was with great sadness that I heard on Saturday of the death of John Jenkins.  John  was extremely well known throughout the music world in Wales, not only for his work with West Glamorgan Youth Orchestra but also as a celebrated conductor of male voice choirs.  He was present Musical Director of Bridgend Male Voice Choir, although he conducted many choirs in his long illustrious career. He was Musical Director of The Gower Chorale from 2001 until the end of December 2003 when he returned to his first love of conducting male voice choirs.

John never lost touch with The Gower Chorale, especially through his work as Trustee for the Russell Sheppard Memorial Trust.  As most of you will know, John was in fact Russell Sheppard’s son-in-law and he always made sure each year that we received tickets to attend the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for the scholarship recital.

I know he will be sorely missed by all who came into contact with him and our thoughts, at this sad time, are with Wendy, his widow, and their family.

May he rest in peace.

Mozart's Requiem and Faure's Requiem

I have  found choral part links for the Mozart and Faure:

http://www.cyberbass.com/Major_Works/Mozart_W_A/mozart_KV626_requiem_levin.htm

http://www.cyberbass.com/Major_Works/Faure%20G/faure.htm

http://www.learnchoralmusic.co.uk/Faure/Requiem/Requiem.html

If you  have problems playing the latter two you may need to download midi playing software as suggested on the site.

Another link for the Palestrina:
http://www.learnchoralmusic.co.uk/Palestrina/Missa%20Brevis/missa-brevis.html

But if you search on Google you will get lots of youtube references and some of them are worth listening to if you haven't got the CD.
